Attendance is expected in this course. Any student with four absences will be sent a WF warning letter. Upon a fifth absence, the student will be withdrawn from the course. There are no excused absences.
You are expected to read the first section of each assigned chapter before coming to class. There will be a reading quiz at the beginning of each class period and each quiz will have a single question. If you anticipate being absent, you may request an oral quiz from me before the class period in question. Reading quizzes may not be made up after the fact. Attendance will be monitored via these reading quizzes; if you miss a quiz you were, by definition, absent.
Reading quizzes are distinct from project tests. Reading quizzes are easy, cover only the first section of each chapter, and can be taken only once. Project tests are hard, cover entire chapters, and may be taken again and again. Since they carry the same credit, it would be a crying shame for a student to miss a reading quiz.
