The Emulsion

Use egg whites (albumin) as a binder for insoluble silver chloride.

  • Redox: AgCl(s) + Albumin(s) = (Oxidized Albumin)Cl(s) + Ag(s)

  • Light makes this reaction go faster.

  • The silver in bright areas will be reduced quickly, that in dark areas, slowly.

  • bright areas turn black, dark areas stay white: a negative image.
