Jmol Molecular Models: Sodium and Potassium Hydroxide

The positive sodium and potassium ions in NaOH and KOH are attracted to the negative oxygen atom in water. These ions jump ship, leaving the negative hydroxide ion. NaOH and KOH have very similar properties. The main differences are that the potassium ion is larger and heavier than the sodium ion.
