This weaving project was completed in the Fall semester of 1996 by Scott Hughs. Scott had previously spun 20 feet of yarn from raw wool, made his own soap from margerine, and dyed his yarn using black walnuts. He incorporated this yarn along with blue and white commercial cotton carpet warp in his woven band. He used a 16-card 4-hole loom which he strung vertically in his room. Scott strong his warp between two coat hangers and used the hooks to hang his loom from the ceiling at the top and to hang a weight at the bottom. The finished band was 1.25 inches wide by 38 inches long and took two days (on and off) to weave. His homespun yarn appears on the selvedges as a dark brown border.
